Quality Equine Veterinary Services

In 1976, following completion of vet school, Dr. Fitch bought the property on which the clinic now sits with the goal of starting his own, solo practitioner, equine practice.

In that year, Dr. Fitch completed a rigorous internship at Littleton Large Animal Clinic before returning to the Boulder area to begin his own practice.

Starting by covering night-time emergency work for a few other practices, Dr. Fitch gradually began to grow his practice, and did so for 24 years on his own.


In 2001, after working at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico, Dr. Downey joined Dr. Fitch, and the practice continued to grow and flourish.

In 2010, Dr. Downey bought the practice from Dr. Fitch and Quality Equine Veterinary Services, Inc. was born.

Dr. Fitch transitioned seamlessly from the role of owner to employee and still very much enjoys practicing equine veterinary medicine.

Dr. Downey has taken on the challenge of practice ownership in stride and manages to wrangle two rambunctious kids, devote time and attention to every client and patient, as well as continuously look for ways to improve the veterinary services QEVS provides.
