Willis Animal Clinic
Willis Animal Clinic was founded in 1976 out of a need for a trustworthy, community-focused place for animals in Montgomery, AL. Dr. Willis fulfilled that need by becoming the first Black veterinarian to practice and own a veterinary hospital in the city.
But even before he became a beloved local vet and a pillar of our community, he always believed in helping others and pursuing excellence in all forms. He studied at the prestigious Tuskegee Institute, now called Tuskegee University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1961 and a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1966. He then went on to a long military career, in which he served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps in Vietnam.
After returning to Montgomery, AL, and founding our veterinary clinic, he continued to grow it over decades often times bringing his daughter in the clinic alongside him. Today, his legacy lives on in our clinic's commitment to serving our community members and their pets.
